I’m that girl that wants everything. I’m sure you know someone just like me or are one yourself!

The main reason I came to the UK was to follow my gut and get a degree in what interested me. I’m not the first nor the last person to leave everything I know and go to study in a foreign country.. In my home country of Latvia, they dont offer that many subjects to study, so i knew that choosing to move to the UK would give me more options. I decided to go to Bournemouth University to study Computer Animation.

Something else I’ve always loved to do is travelling. I would often go travelling to different countries with my mum. Now I can’t imagine my life without travelling. Something i love about travelling, is the freedom and diffrent experiences you have whilst in foreign countries. So want to know how I could afford to travel whilst at univeristy? Check out my tips below!

Tip 1 – Basic information

First a bit of information – flights in the UK are generally cheap to most countries in Europe such as Spain and France, espicially flying from London. To find the best deal always use websites which compare the flights but remember to check your travel costs to the airport also, as getting to London can be expensive. It’s also good to figure the right timing to buy tickets, usually tickets are cheaper off season, such as Autumn, or beginning of June!

Tip 2 – Get a job!

In the UK, the pay is really good. Getting a job to pay for travelling is my best advice. Any money you earn, put it aside for your travels!

Tip 3 – Travel when you’re flexible!

Choosing a month when it doesn’t matter the exact date you travel can save you a lot of money. Some days are cheaper than others e.g Tuesdays & Wednesdays. So it’s best to choose a time when you can travel on any day, at any time.

Tip 4 – Stay for a short time

Travelling for 3 days is usually enough time to see most of the sights you want to see, if not you can always go back in a later date. There are many advantages to staying in a country for short time such as:

– Cheaper costs for living – such as food and accomodation.

– Cheaper costs on sight seeing – because some countries you can’t do it all in one day, you really prioritise what you want to see.

Tip 5 – Stay in Hostels!

Not only are hostels cheaper, but you can also make friends if you are travelling alone. If you’re only sleeping in the room, why would you pay for a fancy room? Some hostels I have stayed at have been even better than hotels! It’s best to also book accommodation in advance to get the best deals.

Tip 6 – Find the information booth!

Finding the travel information booth is the best thing you can do. Not only does it show some attractions you wont find online, but a lot of the times they show when to go to attractions to see them for free!

To sum up, if I can travel whilst studying, you can too! I hope my tips have been useful and allow you to travel as much as I have!
